Abstract
The mutual fund industry is a fast growing sector of the Indian financial markets.
newlineThey have become a major vehicle for mobilization of savings, especially from the small and
newlinehousehold savers for investment in the capital market. This study is an attempt that has been
newlinemade to know the investors perception towards mutual funds covering six cities of Odisha. It
newlineinvolves the understanding of the basic concept of mutual funds, various schemes of mutual
newlinefunds, investment alternatives, factors influencing investment, investor s expectation
newlineregarding the mutual funds and investors preference of different mutual funds schemes etc.
newlineThis study has been carried out under six broad objectives. The first objective is to study the
newlinevarious aspects relating to mutual funds industry in India. The second objective is, to study
newlinethe growth of mutual funds industry in India in terms of resource mobilization and asset
newlineunder management. Third objective of study is to know the demographic profile of mutual
newlinefund respondents in Odisha whereas the fourth objective is to examine the investment pattern
newlineof mutual funds investors in Odisha and fifth objective is to study the satisfaction level of
newlineinvestors towards investment in mutual funds the last objective of this study is to know the
newlineinvestors perception towards mutual funds. For this study both the secondary and primary
newlinedata were collected. The secondary sources include various sources like books, magazines,
newlinearticles, journals, periodicals, annual reports, newspapers, websites, and official publications
newlineetc. whereas Primary data includes the data collected from the individual investors in various
newlinefields in mutual fund, financial advisors, discussions and officials of various asset
newlinemanagement companies etc. The study was carried out for a period of past ten financial years
newline(1st April 2008-09 to 31st March 2017-18).
