dc.description.abstractvii newlineABSTRACT newlineThe metal complexes play an important role in many industrial, biological and newlinepharmaceutical processes. In our work emphasis has been given to chromium(III) newlinecomplexes for the following reasons (i) chromium(III) complexes are found to be newlineantidepressants (ii) chromium(III) complexes are essential for protein, carbohydrate and newlinelipid metabolism (iii) deficiency of chromium(III) has been associated with newlinecardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and nervous system disorder. Considering the newlineimportance of chromium(III) complexes, the reactivities of chromium(III) complex with newlineantiparkinsonian drugs like L-dopa and carbidopa have been studied. The new newlinecomplexes where Cr(III) is bonded to L-dopa or carbidopa have been isolated and their newlineantiparkinsonian properties have been studied. A comparison has also been done newlinebetween the antiparkinsonian effect of the above drugs and L-dopa and L-dopa newlinecarbidopa mixture. It has been found that the above Cr(III) complexes which are newlinecoordinated to L-dopa or carbidopa are better drugs when tested on healthy mice. The newlinemechanism of reaction between cis-[Cr(C2O4)2(H2O)2]- with L-dopa and carbidopa were newlinefound to be Interchange Associative (Ia). These conclusions were made because the kan newline(anation rate constants) were found to be much higher than kex (exchange rate constant) newlineand and#8710;Sand#8800; is highly negative. A suitable rate law has been derived which could explain the newlineexperimental findings. The order of the reaction with respect to [L-dopa] or [carbidopa newline
