Abstract
The study examined the pattern of spatial and technological restructuring of Indian manufacturing industry across major Indian states over a period of last four decades and identified the underlying factors influencing the emerging industrial changes in the post-reform period. The results reveal that liberalisation has not produced uniform benefits across regions in India. Furthermore, the manufacturing sector has been experiencing capital deepening in the post-reform period, reflected in terms of growing capital intensity per worker. The change is shaped by a range of economic and non-economic factors. A nuanced understanding of these shifts warrants policy interventions to address uneven industrialisation among Indian states.
