Abstract
In this work, the hemodynamic parameters of artery are presented to help in
newlineunderstanding the vascular diseases which is caused due to the deposition of stenosis.
newlineThe software tool Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has been used for studying
newlinecomputational techniques which gives pavement in the design of the geometrical
newlinemodel of arteries and its simulation analysis. Different parameters like shape, size and
newlineposition of stenosis varies from person to person has been studied. The work is further
newlineextended to examine the phenomenon of variation of shape, size and position of
newlinestenosis by numerical simulation of blood flow in healthy and stenosed artery having
newlinedifferent plaque shape and size.
newlineBy considering various anatomical conditions the hemodynamic parameters were
newlinecalculated for healthy and stenosed artery for understanding the development of
newlinestenosis in the carotid artery. The analysis was performed by using commercially
newlineavailable software ANSYS CFX (version 16.2, 2015). At the arterial bifurcation the
newlineflow velocity reduces which in turn reduces the wall shear stress due to the backflow
newlineand oscillatory behavior of flow. The region of low wall shear stress is favorable for
newlinethe development of atherosclerosis plaque. Geometry and size of stenosis affects the
newlinehemodynamic parameters of artery. The hemodynamic parameters such as WSS,
newlinevelocity and pressure for various geometrical model having different shape and size of
newlinestenosis were calculated and compared. From this work we can observe that the artery
newlinehaving maximum area of blockage is an important factor for the measurement of the
newlineseverity level because it causes significant changes in flow velocity which may cause
newlinefatal conditions and more prone to rupture. These computation simulations help in
newlinediagnosis of patient having atherosclerosis.
