Man has been curious for gaining knowledge about population from the dawn of its newlineorigin, firstly in 1662, John Graunt in London studied population statistically and newlineempirically. He introduced quotAnalysis approachquot or the technique of demographic newlineanalysis. First scientific study of population wad done by Thomas Robert Malthus in newline1748, who introduced the quotProblem approach in demographyquot. Since then the newlineintellectuals of world realise the problem of population. newlineA rapid population growth rate is like a curse for a developing economy because it newlinecreates a pressure on the existing resources of the economy. quotHuman beings are both newlineends and means for economic activities, when, in right numbers, they are an asset, but newlinenot so, in fact liability, if number is beyond capacity of the economy. The high growth newlinerate of population is affected by many socio demographic and economic variables, the newlineage at marriage and spacing of first birth among women i.e. since their marriage to first newlinelive birth is one of those factors. newlineDemographic variables play an important role in doing demographic planning of a newlinecountry or a state. Their interrelations with other economic resources can bring an newlineimportant fruit and ideal state of development for a country or state that is why to newlineunderstand the dynamics of these variables is a necessary precondition for an economy. newlineThe measures of mortality and fertility are two important demographic variables. In newlineIndia mortality started declining earlier than fertility, population has been growing at a newlinefaster rate during the past few decades. The wonder drugs, coupled with economic newlineprosperity have reduced the risk of death surprisingly and fertility having not been newlinereduced proportionately, the growth rate of the population have phenomenally increased. newlineIn the late 1930s the rate of population growth was slow and there was no problem newlineregarding population, growth of population appeared very fast for the first time in 1921- newline1931 decade and then studies regarding population problems were emphasized.
