Abstract
Medicinal plants are known to exhibit many biological activities from the ancient
newlineperiod. They were applied in the ayurvedic medicines for the treatment of various
newlinediseases. Balanites aegyptiaca (L.) del which belongs to the family of
newlineBalanitaceae. It is found to be an evergreen xerophytic tree of tremendous
newlinemedicinal importance and was found to be distributed throughout the dried parts of
newlineIndia. In India and Asia, it was reported to be used in a variety of folk medicines.
newlineVarious parts of the plants has been used in the Ayurvedic and other folk
newlinemedicines in order to treat different ailments which includes syphilis, jaundice,
newlineliver and spleen problems, epilepsy, yellow fever. This present work deals with an
newlineattempt to develop a modified novel, simple method for extraction of Balanite
newlineaegyptiaca seeds oil for determination of anti-inflammatory, analgesic activity and
newlineanti-rheumatic activity. Extraction was done to extract seed oil and the extract
newlineobtained was evaluated for phytochemical estimation and result showed presence
newlineof alkaloids, glycosides, carbohydrate, steroids, proteins, Saponins, Tannins and
newlineflavonoids. The oil obtained after extraction were evaluation for physical
newlineparameter showed surface tension of 31mN/m, Viscosity of 24 cp, Acid value of
newline1.01mg/g. Along with it extracted oil had a saponification value of 29.5mg/g and
newlineIodine value of 59.6mg/g. After obtaining the unsaponified matter the compounds
newlinewere isolated by column chromatography using isocratic elution technique.
newlineIsolated compounds were analyzed spectrometrically using IR spectroscopy, NMR
newlineanalysis and Mass Spectroscopy. In vivo studies conducted to evaluate the toxicity
newlinestudy on the extract obtained from Balanites aegyptiaca seed. The results obtained
newlinefrom the toxicity studies showed no toxicity on the rats with a dose of 300
newlinemg/kg/day and 600 mg/kg/day. The extracted compound evaluated for the antiinflammatory activity on male wistar rat by carrageen induced paw edema method,
