Abstract
Employee satisfaction is one of the most studied area for scholars in human resources. Given
newlineit s relevance, it continues to attract attention of contemporary scholars as well. Start-ups
newlinecontribute significantly to the Indian GDP and employ significant number of employees. There,
newlinehowever, is scant literature available in the area of employee satisfaction in Indian tech start-
newlineups. Further, there lacks a longitudinal study of change in satisfaction scores of employees
newlinebetween the time of joining and having spent minimum six months in the organisation. This
newlinestudy aims to bridge these gaps.
newlineThough the review of extant literature, this research finds four demographic variables (age,
newlinegender, work experience, and education) and eight variables (HR policies and practices,
newlineOrganisational values and culture, Supervision, Employer s focus on health and safety,
newlineEmployer branding, Empowerment at Work, Workplace Relationship, and Workplace
newlineInfrastructure) to have a relationship with employee satisfaction. Subsequent to these findings,
newlineresearch gaps, questions and objectives were formed, and a conceptual model was developed.
newlineTaking inspiration from extant literature, questionnaire statements were selected. Industry
newlineexperts and academicians were engaged for discussing the relevance of questionnaire in Indian
newlinetech start up context. Post incorporating their inputs, final questionnaire was formed.
newlineA pilot study was conducted on 49 respondents and reliability of the questionnaire was
newlineestablished using Cronbach alpha test in IBM SPSS 23. Subsequently, a factor analysis was
newlineconducted on the responses in IBM SPSS 23. The analysis reduced our eight variables to five
newlinefactors, basis eigen value. Driven by the nature of questions in each factors, they were renamed
newline(HR policies and practices, Organisational values and culture, Supervision, Employer s focus on health and safety, Employer branding).
