Stem Cell Responses Combinatorial Chemistry Based Elucidation of Molecular Signaling

Abstract

The discovery of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) provided a pioneering newlinestep in stem cell research. HSCs are the multipotent adult stem cells, newlinecharacterized by their extensive self-renewal capacity and pluripotency. newlineThey generally reside in the bone marrow niche/ microenvironment in newlineadult mammals (can also be obtained from other sources like peripheral newlineblood and umbilical cord blood) and hierarchically at top of progenitors newlinethat become progressively restricted to several or single lineages newlineincluding myeloid cells (monocyte/macrophage and neutrophil), newlinelymphocytes, red blood cells and megakaryocytes. Spectrums of newlineregulatory signals govern a complex yet dynamic crosstalk between HSCs newlineand its microenvironment (niche) that regulates the molecular signaling newlineand propagates the downstream events by stimulation of several intrinsic newlineand extrinsic factors which decides the stem cell fate. newline
