ATTITUDE OF ADOLESCENTS TOWARDS ALCOHOL AND DRUGS IN RELATION TO THEIR PARENTING AND PEER PRESSURE

Abstract

The presentresearch work has been carried outto studythe Attitude of newlineadolescentstowardsAlcoholandDrugsinrelationtotheirParentingandPeer newlinepressure.MajorobjectivesofthestudyaretofindoutAlcoholandDrugAttitude newlineofadolescents,tofindoutrelationshipbetweenAlcoholandDrugAttitudeand newlineParentingaswellasPeerpressure,tofindoutsignificantpredictorsofAlcohol newlineanddrugattitudefrom parentingandpeerpressureandtofindouttheroleof newlinegenderandlocality.Quantitativedescriptiveapproachwasusedforthepresent newlineresearch.Thepopulationforthepresentstudycomprisesofalltheadolescents newlinestudyingin10th standardinGovernmentsecondaryschoolsofPunjabstate. newlineSamplecomprisedof788studentsfrom thestateofPunjab.Thesampling newlineprocedurewascompletedinthreephasesbyusingMultistageStratifiedRandom newlinesampling.Totalsix districts ofPunjab state were selected by following newlineProportionateStratifiedSampling,4districtsofMalwaregionMoga,Mansa,Sri newlineMuktsarSahibandSangrur,Tarantarandistrictfrom MajhaandJalandharfrom newlineDoabaregionswereselectedrandomly.40schoolswereselectedbyapplying newlineRandom Sampling from sixselected districts.In the lastphase,total788 newlinestudentsof10th classwereselected randomlyfrom selected schools.The newlineinvestigatorhasusedthreestandardizedtoolsinthepresentstudy.Tofindout newlinethelevelofAlcoholandDrugattitudeinadolescents,AlcoholandDrugAttitude newlineScale(2010)constructedbyDr.SunilSainiandDr.SandeepSinghwasapplied. newlineTostudyParentinglevelofadolescents,ParentingScale(1998)developedbyDr. newlineR.L.Bharadwaj,Dr.H.SharmaandDr.A.Gargwasappliedwhichstudiedthree newlinemodesofParenting,Fathering,MotheringandParentingasawholealongwith newlineeightdifferentdimensionsofparentingwhichareRejectionVs.Acceptance; newlineCarelessnessVs.Protection,NeglectVs.Indulgence,UtopianExpectationsVs. newlineRealism,LenientstandardVs.Moralism,Freedom Vs.Discipline,FaultyRole newlineExpectationsVs.RealisticRoleExpectationsandMaritalConflictVs.Marital newlineAdjustment.
