Effect of brain based learning programme on Mathematics anxiety and academic achievement of secondary school students in relation to their learning styles

Abstract

The study aims to explore the effect of Brain Based Learning Programme on mathematics anxiety and academic achievement of secondary school students in relation to their learning styles. Pretest -Posttest control group design was used for the study. They study was conducted on a sample of 76 students of class IX. The intact sections of class IX were randomly allocated to control and experimental groups. Each group has 38 students. The experiment was conducted for two months during which the control group was taught through traditional teaching method and experimental group was taught through brain based learning programme. The data was collected using self constructed Achievement test in Mathematics, Learning Style Inventory by KS Misra (2012) and Mathematics Anxiety Rating Scale by Karimi and Venkatesan (2011). Data were analysed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and t test. The results of study revealed that there was statistically significant effect of brain based learning programme in reducing Mathematics Anxiety and enhancing achievement in Mathematics. newline
