Abstract
newline ABSTRACT
newlineBACKGROUND:
newlineIt is estimated that 300 million people worldwide suffer from asthma and this figure is
newlineprojected to rise to 400 million by year 2025. Asthma accounts for approximately
newline500,000 hospitalizations each year, with around 250,000 deaths annually attributed
newlineto the disease. 1/3rd of the world s asthma patients are Indian. India has an estimated
newline15-20 million asthmatics imposes an unacceptable burden on health care systems, and
newlineon society through loss of productivity in the workplace and, especially for pediatric
newlineasthma, disruption to the family. The present study evaluated the comparative
newlinetherapeutic effect of homoeopathic medicines selected by using Kent s Repertory and
newlineprescribed in Centesimal as well as LM Potency in management of Asthma.
newlineOBJECTIVES:
newlineand#61607; To assess the effectiveness of individualized Homoeopathic medicines
newlinefor bronchial asthma by using Kent Repertory and comparing before and
newlineafter treatment scores of Elizabeth Juniper s Asthma Control
newlineQuestionnaire(ACQ) in both the interventional groups.
newlineand#61607; To compare the effect of LM and Centesimal potency on the extent of
newlineimprovement on stages of asthma as per GINA guideline of
newlineclassification.
newlineIII
newlineSTUDY DESIGN:
newlineand#61623; Prospective, open trial, double arm, randomized comparative trial.
newlineMATERIALS AND METHODS
newlineand#61607; Total of 70 patients with Bronchial asthma were assessed for the eligibility criteria and
newlinewere enrolled. Then the type of random sampling technique was used to allot Asthma
newlinecases into two arms. In Arm A (n= 35 cases) Homeopathic medicines were prescribed in
newlineLM potency selected on the basis of the reportorial totality by using Kent s repertory and
newlinein Arm B (n=35 cases) Homeopathic medicines were prescribed on the basis of the
newlinereportorial totality by using Kent s repertory in in Centesimal potency. During the eighteen
newlinemonths trial, all data were measured and analyzed under modified intention to treat and
newlinethen statistical analysis of the paired t test was done for assessment, reassessment by using
newlineElizabeth Juniper s Asthma control Questionnaire (ACQ).
newlineCONCLUSION:
newlineThe homeopathic medicines selected from Kent s repertory in LM potency
newlinewere effective for the treatment of Asthma in compare to Centesimal potency. As
newlineper statistical analysis the result of the study showed improvement in the complain
newlineof asthma for Arm A than Arm B using Elizabeth Juniper s Asthma control
newlineQuestionnaire (ACQ).
