Abstract
A field experiment entitled Direct and residual effect of integrated nutrient and weed
newlinemanagement in transplanted rice [Oryza sativa (L.)]- zero till mustard [Brassica juncea (L.) Czern and
newlineCoss] was conducted during kharif and rabi, 2019-20 and 2020-21 at Agronomy Main Research Farm,
newlineOUAT, Bhubaneswar. The soil of the experimental site was sandy loam in texture with pH 5.84, medium
newlinein organic C (5.02 g/kg), low in available N (218.6 kg/ha), medium in available P (19.7 kg/ha) and K
newline(182.6 kg/ha). The treatments comprised of three nutrient management practices, viz. N1: Soil Test Based
newlineDose (STD:100-40-40 kg N-P2O5-K2O/ha), N2: STD+FYM at5t/ha and N3: STD+ in situ green
newlinemanuring of dhaincha as horizontal factor and six weed management practices, viz. W1: pre-emergence
newline(PE) application of bensulfuron-methyl (0.6%)+pretilachlor (6%) GR at0.66 kg/ha (tank mix), W2: W1+
newlinehand weeding (HW) at 35 DAT, W3: pyrazosulfuron-ethyl (10% WP) at 0.02 kg/ha (PE), W4: W3+ HW
newlineat 35 DAT, W5: HW at 25 and 40 DAT and W6: weedy check as vertical factor were allotted to kharif
newlinerice and replicated thrice in a strip plot design. The direct and residual effect of the treatments were
newlinestudied on rice and mustard crop respectively. Pooled analysis revealed that incorporation of green
newlinemanure along with STD (N3) recorded significantly 29.9 and 22.2 % lower weed density and
newline37.6 and 35.4 % lower biomass than STD at 30 and 60 DAT of rice respectively whereas
newlineamongst weed management treatments, W2 registered significantly 83.4 and 90.8% lower weed
newlinedensity and 91.6 and 95.4% lower biomass than weedy check respectively. In mustard,
newlinesignificantly 18.4 and 22.4% lower weed density and biomass were obtained with N3 treatment
newlineas compared to N1 whereas the percentage of reduction in weed density and biomass under W2
newlineover weedy check (W6) were 48.3 and 49.1% respectively. The nutrient management practice
newlinewith N3 was found to be significantly superior in terms of growth attributes and produced significantly
newline17.7 and 11.1% higher rice grain yield (5562 kg/ha)
