dc.description.abstractTo mitigate the impact of climate change, many sectors such as newlinetransportation systems, power sector, etc. are revolutionizing the way they newlinefunction. The power sector, being a significant contributor to climate change, newlinereplaces its conventional fossil fuel-based generation with renewable energy newlinesources. However, this brings various challenges in the control and operation newlineof the power system. newlineOne such challenge is, ensuring continuous power balance in the newlinepresence of intermittent loads and renewable energy sources. To mitigate this newlineissue, microgrids are gaining attention as suitable solutions. Since microgrids newlineare geographically limited, the coordination between intermittent renewable newlineenergy source and varying loads can achieved by employing energy storage newlinesystems locally. With increased DC loads and with various advantages of DC newlinesystem, DC microgrids are becoming popular since the major advantage of newlineAC power systems over DC power systems, which is the transmission system, newlineis eliminated by local generation and consumption of power in a microgrid. newlineThus the ultimate motive of this research work is to enhance the newlinepenetration of renewable energy sources into the generation mix so that the newlineshare of conventional fossil fuel-based generation can be decreased. newlineWith this ultimate motive, the research work focuses on enhancing newlinesolar energy system which resulted in the design and development of a novel newlinesolar PV emulator (chapter 3). Solar PV emulators are crucial to validate new newlinecontrol strategies pertaining to solar PV systems thereby improving the newlineperformance of solar PV systems which in turn aids in increasing their newlinepenetration into the power grid newline
