dc.description.abstractRenewable energy can significantly improve local living standards by reducing air newlinepollution, creating employment, reducing dependence on fossil fuel imports and its newlineassociated price risk, therefore, increasing domestic energy security. Renewable newlineenergy based power technologies have taken a significant leap and are now capable of newlinebehaving like conventional fuel based power plants. In recent times they can also newlinecontribute in automatic generation control and ride through voltage and frequency newlinedisturbances besides their traditional role of supplying active power. They can also be newlineused to provide ancillary services like automatic voltage control, governor and inertial newlineresponse, reactive power compensation etc. newlineA cluster of these renewable energy sources are micro-managed as a single entity due newlineto the advancement in power electronics. The resulting microgrid can be operated newlineautonomously or tied to an infinite bus. In the context of areas with remote and newlineinaccessible terrains and other regions which are not connected with the grid, newlineDistributed Generation (DR) based on renewables emerges as an attractive solution to newlinegeographical challenges. Small stand-alone renewable technologies can meet the newlineenergy needs of rural communities more effectively. An autonomous power system newlinewhich is based on these sources is intermittent in nature. These sources are always newlinesubject to local variations/availability, ambient temperature and pressure and hence newlinepose a significant challenge. In today s scenario, conventional techniques to newlinemanaging power are no longer relevant. In this work, comprehensive investigation on newlinethe operation of standalone hybrid systems based on renewable sources of energy has newlinebeen carried out. newlineThe use of autonomous hybrid power system is being popular due to the continuous newlineincreasing gap between demand and supply of conventional energy sources and newlineintermittent nature of renewable energy sources. This also introduces operational and newlinecontrol problems which need to be addressed at the load end.
