Abstract

Nuclear Power Plants demand rigorous emergency management newlinestrategies to mitigate the impact of potential accidents. The perceptions of newlineemployees, who are integral to the operational safety protocols within these newlinefacilities, play a critical role in the success of emergency preparedness and newlineresponse strategies. Understanding their viewpoints on protection strategy newlinecan offer valuable insights into the strengths and potential gaps in existing newlinemanagement systems. This study aimed to explore employee s perception of newlineprotection strategies during nuclear emergency management at Indian newlineNuclear Power Plants with the focus on investigation of various factors newlinecontributing to the protection strategies for emergency workers (PS1), on site newlinepeople (PS2) and offsite people (PS3 and PS4). newlineThe main objective of this research is to provide improved newlineprotection strategies for emergency management through feedback from newlineemployees and analysis of various factors contributing to protection of newlinepeople. The study objectives are (1) To study the personnel profile of the newlineresponders / respondents from nuclear power plants (2) Examine the factors newline/ variables that influence the choice of protective actions for PS1, PS2, PS3 newlineand PS4 (3) To analyze employee s perception on current level of protection newlinestrategy (PS) / protective Action (PA) (4) Suggest suitable measures / newlinerecommendations for strengthening PS/ PA for nuclear emergency newlinemanagement. This research is contributing to justified and optimized newlineprotection strategy with adequate consideration of various factors that newlineinfluence / contribute to the protection of people. newlineThis study adopted mixed method (quantitative and qualitative) newlineresearch approach to explore and analyse the perceptions of employees newlineworking in the nuclear power plants regarding the effectiveness and adequacy newlineof existing protection strategies for nuclear emergency management. The newlineemployees from Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) located in different newlinegeographical location within India participated in the study.
