Abstract
Sustainability of concrete is one of the most important criteria for today s concern as it
newlineconsumes significant number of natural resources due to large economic growth and
newlineheavy industrialization. In order to make the concrete sustainable and eco-friendly,
newlinewaste, or residual materials derived from various industries can be utilized as
newlinealternatives for basic materials of concrete as these materials require less amount of
newlineenergy for production, less carbon dioxide emission, and is considered cheap and more
newlinedurable than the traditional concrete. In an effort to address the growing demand for
newlineenvironmentally friendly concrete, many researchers have reported in literature, the
newlinefeasibility of replacing natural aggregate with recycled concrete aggregate (RCA)
newlinederived from construction and demolition (CandD) waste, for production of sustainable
newlineconcrete. When RCA is used properly, the construction industry may reduce the natural
newlineaggregate quarrying, saves significant amount of energy and the amount of CO2 emitted
newlineby the supplier of the aggregate as well as the material cost. Presently, the production of
newlineindustrial by-products from the steel, copper and coal industry is high and generation of
newlineslag from industries are abundantly available. Disposal of these industrial slags creates
newlineserious environmental problems. Many studies have been conducted on the use of these
newlineindustrial by products in place of conventional materials, which in turn protects the
newlineenvironment and solves the disposal problems to some extent. Copper slag is an
newlineindustrial by-product obtained from the copper industry which can be a potential
newlinesubstitute for concrete materials due to its glassy texture, low water absorption and
newlinethermal expansion property. GGBFS is an industrial by-product generated from the slag
newlineindustry being utilized in various sectors worldwide due to its pozzolanic property.
newlineHence, to create a sustainable concrete, more research is required to utilize both
newlineconstruction waste and industrial waste together as an alternative construction mater
