Modern india s conflict of homosexual identities and heteronormativity a select literary study of 21st century lesbian and gay narratives

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the contention of heteronormativity and homosexuality and examines the homosexual identities within the modern nation space. It explores, how heteronormative ideology encroaches on the identities of homosexuals and what is it that makes them alternate identities in the eyes of modern India. To understand this conflict, 21st-century newlinelesbian and gay fiction, memoirs, and a graphic narrative are undertaken for this research. The objectives determined for this research are, a correlational study between compulsory heterosexuality and homosexuality via the use of language in the narratives, the intersections of newline public and private spaces of homosexual identities, and how hegemonic masculinity and newlinefemininity affect the appearance, body image and performance of desire in gays and lesbians respectively. The research methodology includes critical discourse analysis to examine fictional and graphic narratives. Additionally, autobiography is used as a distinct research method to newlineexamine memoirs.
