dc.description.abstractFacebook is one of the most popular social media platforms that allow hundreds of people to communicate and interact with each other. It has become a prominent tool of many people for expressing their opinions, ideas, messages, etc. As it is also widely used by students, it becomes a good tool to use the same for learning purposes. This study investigates the effectiveness of using Facebook as a tool for learning English as foreign language among Libyan high school students. The aims of this thesis are to verify whether Facebook is an appropriate tool to develop language skills among Libyan high school students and to discover the benefits of using Facebook in the classroom in learning English as a foreign language among Libyan high school students. It also sheds light onissues concerning using social networking websites in academic field of teaching English language meaningfully. The collected data were taken from the pre-test and the post-test after being corrected by the instructor according to answer model. A test was used to determine if there was any significant difference between the mean scores on the pre-test and the post-test and to measure the achievement of the secondary third grade students in the English language subject. The students were divided randomly into a control group and an experimental group. The control group studied the course through the traditional method while the experimental group used both traditional method and using Facebook. Another method was the questionnaire that is given to students after teaching them English language via Facebook. The study found that Facebook had a positive effect on Libyan students and appropriate tool to learning English language. The results revealed significant differences between the two groups in favor of the experimental group which made significant progress in the post-test.
