Abstract
Self Compacting Concrete (SCC) is a particular type of concrete that fills the formwork, achieves full compaction on its weight even in dense and congested reinforcement area. The proper compaction and consolidation of concrete afford good strength and better quality to it. Inadequate compaction reduces the strength and durability of concrete. Conventional Concrete (CC) needs external compaction after placing it, to eliminate the entrapped air. The vibrators commonly used for compaction of concrete causes noise pollution at the site and also leads to health and psychological problems to the labour. The use of SCC reduces the noise at the site by avoiding compaction with vibrators, and the productivity of the working environment also increases.
newlineTo attain full compaction, the SCC needs more powder content and chemical admixture. The Fly Ash (FA) is a mineral admixture obtained as an industrial by-product from the thermal power station also fills the micropores of the concrete and improves workability, strength and durability of concrete.
newlineThe Manufactured Sand (M.Sand) is made from the stone particles in quarries that can be replaced for river sand for building work. The Indian Science Association is recommending that it be used for construction works. It will reduce the demand for river sand, and natural resources will be preserved.
newlineThe focused objective of the study is to develop and promote a normal strength SCC with M-Sand as a substitute for river sand and fly ash as partial replacement of cement. The study also intended to encourage the use of filler slab in the structure. It reduces the dead load and decreases the quantity of steel reinforcement, thus the cost of construction also.
