Abstract

Light metal alloys/ composites having high strength and adequate toughness are very much in demand for aerospace, defence and automotive applications. Fabrication of surface composites using additive friction stir processing (AFSP) often involves microstructure evolution in terms of grain refinement, phase transformations and reinforcement distribution. This thesis was hence framed with the broad objective of seeking an overall understanding of microstructure evolution and allied property changes due to additive friction stir processing (AFSP) and post-FSP heat treatment of AA7075 and Ti-6Al-4V alloys. newline
