| dc.description.abstract | Coconut shell ash is agricultural waste. The waste is produced in abundance globally newlineand poses risk to health as well as environment. Thus their effective, conducive and newlineeco-friendly utilization has always been a challenge for scientific applications. This newlineproject mainly deals with identification of characteristics of coconut shell ash using newlinespectroscopic and microscopic analysis. Density, Particle size, Hardness newlineMicrostructure and wear methods were used for the characterization of the coconut newlineshell ash. The results were compared and it was observed that the ash possesses nearly newlinesame chemical phases and other functional groups as reinforcement like fly ash, rice newlinehusk ash, bagasse ash that have been in Metal Matrix Composites (MMCs) newlinespecifically for automobile applications. Hence, coconut shell ash can be used as a newlinelow-cost reinforcement in Metal Matrix Composites (MMCs). newlineBehavior of the same is compared with the alloy having similar composition. newlineComposites have improved mechanical properties in terms of tensile strength, newlinedamping ratio, corrosion resistance, hardness and ductility. Increased reinforcement newlinecontents enhance all the mechanical properties such as yield strength, and Young s newlinemodulus. Deformation studies upto 50%, exhibit strain hardening the strength newlinecoefficient, found to be increasing with increasing reinforcement. For alloy and newlinecomposites, no cracks were observed. aspect ratio of 1.0 and 1.5. | |
