| dc.description.abstract | Anganwadi worker is the basic functionary of the ICDS who runs the Anganwadi centre and implements the ICDS scheme. The physical and mental status of the Anganwadi workers greatly influences their work and the development of Anganwadi children. The current Research aims at investigating the Effectiveness of Social Group Work Intervention on the Self-Esteem and Job Stress of Anganwadi Workers. Experimental Research design was used to assess the Effectiveness of Group Work Intervention on 215 Anganwadi Workers chosen through Two Stage Stratified Random Sampling method. Data was collected from 215 Anganwadi workers (female) who were assessed for level of self- esteem, job satisfaction, family support and job stress before and after the intervention. The Group Work Intervention was given to 101 Anganwadi Workers in 6 sessions and the matched control group of 114 respondents did not receive any intervention during the time of research but given general health education input. The tools for Data collection were Self- Esteem scale - Moris Rosenberg. (1965 ), Job Satisfaction Survey by JSS Paul E. Spector, (1994), Family support inventory - King L.A, Mattimore L.K, King D.L, Adams G.A (1995), Stress Diagnostic Survey by Ivancevich, J. M., and Matteson, M. T. (1980). newlineThe study highlights that a majority of the urban and rural experiment and control group Anganwadi Workers had low and normal self-esteem, which shows that they have a low level of self-worth and this leads to dissatisfaction and stress. The level of satisfaction is low which is due to workload, lack of recognition, appreciation and dissatisfaction with financial rewards which lead to stress and poor family support. The moderate level of family support and job stress reduces their interest and efficiency to work. newlineIt is also clearly evident that Group Work Intervention is highly effective in increasing the level of self-esteem, job satisfaction and family support and decreasing the level of job stress.
