| dc.description.abstract | Pregnancy loss and births of chromosomally abnormal children is a common event in human reproduction. Pregnancy loss can be defined as the spontaneous and unplanned loss of a pregnancy before the fetus is capable of extra-uterine survival. The term spontaneous abortion is used for pregnancy loss up-to 5 months of gestation, thereafter it is defined either as an intrauterine fetal death (IUD) or a premature delivery. newline Only 30% of all the conceptions lead to successful delivery [1]. It is estimated that 13-22% of all pregnancies detected by hCG (human Chorionic Gonadotrophin) testing are lost before clinical detection of pregnancy [2-3]. Around 12-15% of all clinically recognized pregnancies are aborted in first trimester [4], and it can be classified as sporadic miscarriage, recurrent miscarriages, ectopic pregnancy, and gestational trophoblastic disease. newline | |
