Isolated and combined effect of specific soccer training and hatha yogic practices on selected motor fitness psychological and skill performance variables among soccer players

Abstract

ABSTRACT newlineThe purpose of the study was to compare the isolated and combined effect of newlinespecific soccer training and hatha yogic practices on selected motor fitness newlinepsychological and skill performance variables among soccer players. To achieve the newlinepurpose of the study, sixty school football players from Christ Wood School, Gateway newlineInternational School, S.B.O.A. School and Vels Vidhyashram School, Chennai, newlineTamilnadu, India, were selected randomly as Subjects. The age of the subjects ranged newlinefrom 16 to 19 years. The sixty subjects were split into four groups of fifteen (15) subjects newlineeach (n=15). The experimental groups, namely Specific Soccer Training (SST), Hatha newlineYogic Practices (HYP), Combined Training (CT), and Control Group. underwent their newlinerespective training programmes for the duration of 12 weeks of 60 morning sessions in newlineaddition to their regular programmes in their curriculum design. Since the subjects were newlineearmarked to instill in them the need and importance of research work, the nature of the newlinetraining procedures and the pros and cons of the training programme were explained to newlinethe subjects. The several doubts raised by the subjects and were clarified by the newlineresearcher. It was informed to the subjects if they felt any discomfort during the training newlineand testing period, they were free to withdraw from the training programme; but there newlinewere no drop-outs in the training programme. They were also given adequate rest/relief newlineon and before their training sessions. The pre and post data were collected from the newlinesubjects before and after the experimentation respectively on the selected dependent newlinevariables such aerobic endurance, anaerobic endurance, coordination, explosive power, newlinespeed, speed endurance. The obtained data from the experimental groups before and newlineafter experimental period were statistically analyzed with paired sample t test and newlineAnalysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). In all the cases, 0.05 level was fixed as level of newlineconfidence to test the hypothesis. It was found that there was a signifi
