dc.description.abstractBACK-GROUND: Candida infections are the most common cause of fungal infections worldwide, the fourth leading cause of healthcare associated infections and third most common cause of central line associated blood stream infections. AIM: isolation, identification and antifungal susceptibility pattern of candida albicans from various clinical samples and detection of erg11 gene in fluconazole resistant candida albicans isolates. OBJECTIVES: to isolate and identify Candida species from different clinical specimens,To identify Candida albicans isolated from different clinical specimens phenotypically,To determine the invitro antifungal susceptibility pattern of Candida albicans isolated from different clinical specimens. MATERIALS and METHODS: This was a 18 months cross-sectional prospective study conducted in the department of microbiology RMCHandRC Mandhana, Kanpur. The sample size of this study was 70.Culture identification, specification, Antifungal susceptibility testing and gene detection was conducted in Microbiology department. RESULTS: in the present study out of the 70 Candida spp, 29 (3.52%) wereCandida albicans and 31(3.76%) were Non Candida albicans. The ratio of males were observed to be more with (52.9%) as compared to the females (47.1%) with the age group of 31-40 years (27.1%) being affected the most. Maximum number of Candida were isolated from urine sample (47.1%). The most common risk factors for Candida infections were patients having UTI, Diabetes, prolonged antibiotic therapy. Fluconazole and Amphotericin-B shows 5.7% and 2.9% resistance respectively. ERG11 gene were detected in only 5.7% of cases. CONCLUSION: In this study we concluded that Candida infection were more common in Patients having Comorbidities like Urinary tract infections, diabetes mellitus, Vaginitis and patients on prolonged antibiotic therapy. The clinician should look on these risk factors to decrease the chances of getting Candida infections. KEYWORDS: Candida albicans, Fluconazole, Amphotericin-B, Diabetes, UTI, Non Candida al
