Abstract
An increasing emphasis on women participation in the workforce and the emergence
newlineof women career progression to the highest level of the management has be come the
newlinepoint of active debate in India. There is a substantial argument among the researcher
newlineand the industry leads, on the significance of organizational support on women career
newlineprogression. This study tries to identify the possible outcomes by exploring the mediating
newlineeffect of organizational support, especially in the Information Technology (IT)
newlineindustry, on key determinants (career commitment, self efficacy, social support and
newlineprofessional identity) and the indicators of women career progression (career satisfaction
newlineand work-life balance). From the existing literature, conceptual frame work and
newlinehypothesis were formed. The conceptual frame work predicts that organizational support
newlinemediating effect on the key determinants and key indicators. Data were collected
newlineusing a survey instrument from the IT companies in and around Chennai. The measurement
newlinemodel was tested using confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) and the hypothesis
newlineformulated were tested using structural equation modeling(SEM). The findings showed
newlinesignificant support for the hypothesized framework. The support extended by the organization
newlinewas fully mediated for the variables (career commitment,social support and
newlineprofessional identity) and found to be partially mediating the variable Self efficacy. Result
newlinediscussion, implications and future scope of research are also discussed.
