Abstract
Indian Rly is biggest network company of world owned by Ministry of Rly on behalf of Govt. Of India, transporting 3.3 Cr. Peoples and 34 lakhs Tons of freight per day and earning 212460 Cr as income (2021-22). IR become one in 1951 nationalized systems as a single entity having multigauge network i.e. board, meter and narrow guage. IR runs both long distance and local route. Also manufacturing locomotives, coaches, components, wheels, axles, carriages, wagons. This needs a lot of raw materials and spare parts. This comprised inventory and material management, manufacturing, planning, scheduling for operations of traffic. IR is largest purchaser in india i.e.1.80 lakhs regular items known as stock items and unlimited unlisted items i.e.as when as required known as non stock items costing Rs.48714 cr. for maintenance, repairing of tracks, wagons, EMU, locomotive, carriage, communication, signaling, civil works and general items. Also purchase fuel and coal.
