Managing Poverty in India through State Interventions Critical Assessment and Learning from Abroad

Abstract

Poverty, recognized as a stubborn and multidimensional problem that nurtures many newlineother socio-economic challenges, needs to be solved with all might and effort. This newlineresearch thesis is developed as a study on the interventionist solutions (tried in the past newlineand ongoing) to overcome poverty in rural India and explore solutions attempted in newlineBangladesh, Indonesia and Brazil, to project the time required for poverty alleviation newlineand suggest ways to quicken it. newlineDescriptive research design has been used to understand the conceptual nature of newlinepoverty, evolution and measurement in India, followed by poverty profiling in newlineBangladesh, Indonesia and Brazil which is further followed by a collated assessment of newlinethe poverty experiences in all the countries. Secondary sources of data are used and due newlineto the qualitative orientation of the study data collection and analysis progress together newlineinseparably. Content analysis forms the major part of the qualitative analysis while newlinescenario analysis using exponential decay function under relevant assumptions make newlinethe quantitative portion of the analysis. newline
