Study and Characterization of Phosphors via Metathesis Synthesis

Abstract

newlinevii newline newlineAbstract newlineThis research work focuses on the synthesis, structural analysis, and photoluminescent newlinecharacterization of rare-earth-doped inorganic phosphors synthesized by solid state metathesis newline(SSM) method for advanced optical applications. In recent years, phosphors have emerged as newlinevital materials in the development of solid-state lighting, display systems, lasers, and energy newlineconversion devices due to their luminescent properties. This study investigates a variety of newlinephosphor systems, including aluminate, vanadate, molybdate, phosphate, and fluoride-based hosts newlinedoped with lanthanide ions such as Eu²and#8314;, Eu³and#8314;, Sm³and#8314;, Pr³and#8314;, and Tb³and#8314;. These systems exhibit newlinepromising down shifting behaviour, making them valuable for efficient light generation and newlinespectral conversion. newlineA range of phosphors were synthesized using time- and energy-efficient techniques, newlinenotably the solid-state metathesis (SSM) method. The synthesized phosphors include newlineBaand#8325;Aland#8322;Oand#8328;:xEu²and#8314;, Mgand#8320;.and#8324;Aland#8322;.and#8324;Oand#8324;:Eu³and#8314;, GdVOand#8324;:Eu³and#8314;, Srand#8323;(POand#8324;)and#8322;:Eu³and#8314;, CaMoOand#8324;:xEu³and#8314;, newlineLiand#8323;Baand#8322;Gdand#8323;(MoOand#8324;)and#8328;:Pr³and#8314;/Sm³and#8314;, and NaYFand#8324;:Tb³and#8314;. Each material was thoroughly analyzed using X- newlineray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray analysis newline(EDX), elemental mapping, and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. Additionally, CIE newlinechromaticity coordinates were calculated to evaluate emission color for display and lighting newlinerelevance. newlineThe luminescence properties of the phosphors were studied in relation to dopant type and newlineconcentration. Notably, vanadate and molybdate hosts showed strong emission intensities, high newlinethermal stability, and tunable emission spectra, which are essential for practical lighting and LED newlineapplications. Eu³and#8314;-doped GdVOand#8324; and Srand#8323;(POand#8324;)and#8322; phosphors, synthesized using microwave-assisted newlineSSM, exhibited efficient red emission with desirable structural and optical characteristics. The newlineviii newline newline newline newlinestudy also explored Sm³and#8314; and Pr³and#8314;-activated molybdates and fluoride-based Tb³and#8314; phosphors, newlinehighlighting their potential for green and
