Link failure analysis and recovery in software defined networks

Abstract

Software Defined Networking SDN is an emerging trend where the control plane and the data plane are separated from each other culminating in effective bandwidth utilization The separation also allows multi-vendor interoperability and improves network efficiency Fast recovery from link failures plays a major role in networking due to packet loss and transmission delay involved during a link failure Link failures must be detected and addressed immediately as it may lead to congestion in the entire network and reduce the efficiency of the network Backup paths must be configured immediately when a failure is detected in the network to speed up packet delivery and to avoid congestion and consequent packet loss The first research work focuses on finding an alternate path to handle high priority packets with minimal delay when a link failure occurs in the network newline
