Abstract
The heterocyclic compounds have acquired great importance due to biological activity
newlineassociated with them. The versatile application of oxygen, nitrogen and sulphur heterocyclic
newlinecompounds have made this area of extensive research by synthetic chemists. These compounds
newlinehave received considerable attention in recent years due to their wide physiological activities and
newlineindustrial significance. These derivatives are useful in various fields like drugs, dyes, polymers,
newlinetextile etc.
newlineA perusal of the literature denotes that compound like Schiff bases, 4 Thiazolidinones,
newlineSubstituted tetrahydroquinolin-5(1H)-one and hexahydoquinoline-3-carboxylate, acridine-1-
newline(2H,9H,10H)-one and 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4-(1H)-one derivatives occupy an important place
newlinein medicinal chemistry as they show a variety of pharmacological and microbiological activities.
newlineOwing to such a wide activities it was thought to be fruitful to synthesize, characterize
newlineand biological evaluation of newly synthesized compounds. The substituted Schiff bases were
newlineprepared by condensation of substituted aromatic amines with aromatic aldehydes. 4-
newlinethiazolidinones were synthesized from substituted Schiff bases and Thioglycolic acid (TGA).
newlineTetrahydroquinolin-5(1H)-one and hexahydoquinoline-3-carboxylate derivatives were
newlinesynthesized by the reaction of dimedone, substituted aldehyde and acetyl acetone/ethyl aceto
newlineacetate/diketone in presence of methanol as a solvent. Acridine-1-(2H,9H,10H)-one derivatives
newlinehas been obtained by reacting dimethylcyclohexanedione, substituted aromatic aldehyde and
newlinesubstituted aniline in presence of methanol/KOH. 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4-(1H)-one derivatives
newlinehas been obtained by reacting benzoxazine - 1-dione, substituted anilines with aromatic aldehyde
newlinein presence of ethanol and water as a solvent followed by acetic acid with stirring. The present
newlinework include the synthesis, characterization and biological evaluation of all newly synthesized
newlinecompounds.
