dc.description.abstractThermal barrier coatings are frequently applied to base metals exposed newlineto excessive temperatures to shield them from the harsh operating thermal cycle newlineload conditions and enhance their functionality. Notably, the nickel-zirconia newlinecoating gets prominence in the research reports about its progressed newlineperformance. This further led to a stable impression of zirconia alloy, which newlineattained significance during this century. Zirconia ranks among the densest newlineceramic materials and possesses remarkable and incredible properties. It retains newlinea considerable amount of hardness and strength even at temperatures that would newlinemake iron as feeble as lead. Also, this nanocomposite is corrosion-resistant and newlinebecause of the contribution of all important properties, this nanocomposite is newlinechosen for further thermal protection of steel for this study. newlineIt is notable that, when first electrodeposited, the nano-crystalline nickel newlineon steel is quite hard, but this hardness diminishes as the crystals gradually newlineexpand from the nanoscale to the microscale. Strikingly, from the literature newlinereport, it is understandable that the nickel-zirconia coatings withstand the above newlinedefects. Moreover, this coating remains stable indefinitely at room temperature newlineand exhibits high resistance to decomposition under heat. Hence, nickel - newlinezirconia coating emerged as the preferred choice in this study, mainly because newlineof its thermal protective qualities on steel. newline
