In an emergency scenario, due to the disruption of traditional infrastructure, successful data dissemination using such infrastructure is almost ruled out. Researchers strongly recommend the use of Delay tolerant networks (DTNs) which have several challenges like lack of end-to-end path, high delays, limited energy and storage affecting network performance significantly. To cope with the challenges, in this dissertation, an attempt has been made to develop an efficient data dissemination framework over resource-constrained wireless networks in an emergency scenario. Firstly, to increase contact opportunities in DTN, a probability density function based DropBox placement scheme (ProDiP) is designed. Next, towards improving network performance further, a utility based DropBox deployment (uDBdep) scheme is proposed by enhancing ProDiP. Also, to show the potency of the deployment schemes a human movement model (Hm2Sc) is designed for post-disaster scenarios. Secondly, to make the uDBdep more realistic, a MILP-based optimization model is proposed that enumerates an optimal number of DBs to be deployed at high utility locations. Next, towards improving information exchange through potential relay selection strategy, a cluster routing scheme aided with a utility based optimal DB deployment (OlaRout) is proposed. Also, an energy and buffer-efficient DTN routing protocol (EBRout) is designed for applications where cluster formation is not natural. Thirdly, to increase node cooperation in message transmission, an incentivizing scheme is proposed by designing an optimization model and an incentive allocation model for forwarding a message and to allocate the same over a Blockchain-enabled DTN environment respectively. Finally, considering the need of essential services in an emergency situation, a blockchain leveraged post-disaster relief allocation scheme (ReliefChain) is developed to work over DTN.
