Abstract
In this thesis, we propose novel transmitter system models to improve the reliability of MIMO communication. Specifically, we concentrate on achieving transmit diversity in SM MIMO systems. We start by introducing DSB, a closed loop two antenna transmitter that adaptively changes its modulation between SSK and a modified binary phase shift keying (BPSK). The adaptive modulation change is based on fading channel condition and we show that DSB achieves second order transmit diversity. We analyze the BER performance of DSB under non-identical transmitter correlated Rayleigh fading channel. From the analysis, we infer that the transmit diversity of DSB is immune to transmitter correlation but susceptible to non-identical fading.
