Developing an Algorithm for Image Forensics

Abstract

A few decades ago, newspapers and state-run Television channels were the only means of spreading the information to the public. Images are used in these platforms for conveying information. Even during these times, the state-run media influences people by beaming fabricated images. With the recent advancement in internet technologies, people share information on social media like, Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp. With easy access to low-cost and simple to use image editing software, anyone with little knowledge in the domain can modify the image. A malicious person can modify an authentic image, spread that image on different social platforms, and influence people s views in a way he/she desires. Therefore, there is a need to expose such image forgeries. Digital Image Forensics is the science used for exposing image forgeries. Among image forgeries, copy paste is a forgery method where some portion of the image is copied and pasted onto the different location of the same image. newline
