| dc.description.abstract | Background of the study : The communication between nurses and patients in oncology settings is a well-acknowledged challenge and an ongoing concern, particularly with an emphasis on navigating difficult conversations. The quality of interactions between doctors, nurses, patients, and their family caregivers often determines positive outcomes in treatment. The provision of psychosocial support to individuals with cancer is a critical aspect of nursing practice, highlighting the significant role that nurses play in this field. In the dynamic realm of oncology care, effective communication is imperative for ensuring that the psychosocial needs of patients are met in conjunction with their physical treatment requirements. In order to deliver comprehensive cancer care, particularly within the context of Indian healthcare, a shift in perspective towards patient-centeredness is essential. This necessitates a deep understanding of the experiential dynamics of patient communication with nurses and other healthcare professionals. Although effective interaction has been highlighted as a crucial element of cancer care, training programs in communication skills have not yet focused on the unique role that nurses play. newlineIn light of this, it is imperative for modern medicine to prioritize the development, implementation, and assessment of communication skills training programs specifically tailored for oncology nurses. Such initiatives are crucial in equipping nurses and nursing students with the tools they need to provide patient-centered and empathetic care to cancer patients and their families. newlineStatement of the problem: Effectiveness of communication skills training programme on competency of undergraduate nursing students in providing psychosocial support to patients with cancer: A mixed method approach newlineAim of the study The present study aimed to assess the impact of communication skills training on the competency of undergraduate students in providing psychosocial support to patients with cancer. newline newlineMaterials and methods A | |
