Performance evaluation of front end Converter for BLDC motor using intelligent controllers

Abstract

The cost and efficiency are major factors in various domestic and industrial applications such as washing machines, cooling fans, water pumps, air blowers, chemical mixers, medical equipment, motion control and industrial tools. Employing BLDC (Brushless Direct Current) motor based drives in these applications has became very popular due to its special characteristics like good efficiency, large flux density per unit volume, lesser maintenance requirements and minimum EMI (Electro-Magnetic Interference). Basically, BLDC motor requires a driver consisting of variable frequency variable voltage three-phase inverter fed by DC supply. Usually, the DC supply is obtained by rectifying single-phase or three-phase AC to DC using an AC-DC converter. A new AC to DC converter fed inverter drive with closed loop control of DC bus voltage to achieve the desired speed is developed in this research work which has high performance than other existing BLDC motor drive. Performance of the BLDC drive has been analyzed with PI, intelligent Fuzzy and Neuro controller for closed loop control of DC bus voltage and hence desired speed is achieved. newline
