Abstract
Spatial Modulation (SM) is a new paradigm for 5G and beyond 5G
newlinewireless communication systems which provides high spectral efficiency and
newlineenergy efficiency. SM is based on multiple antenna system in which the
newlineincoming serial data bits are converted into parallel data bits by serial to parallel
newlineconverter and clustered in to two groups. The first group of bits is transmitted by
newlineselecting one active antenna from multiple antennas at the transmitter side. The
newlinesecond group of bits is transmitted in conventional modulation scheme.
newlineCooperative relay communications can enhance the communication reliability
newlinebetween source and destination as well as it extends the range between them.
newlineEnergy consumption of relay node is the major concern in unidirectional or
newlinebidirectional cooperative communications systems. Energy efficiency of the
newlinerelay node can be improved by employing SM. As only one antenna is active in
newlineSM at the time of transmission and all antennas are active at the time of
newlinereception in SM, a new research direction is emerged in the field of SM based
newlineSimultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer (SWIPT). Energy
newlineHarvesting (EH) at the SM relay node can reduce the energy burden in
newlinetransmission of information. Energy at the relay node is harvested by using
newlineeither Time Switching Relaying (TSR) Protocol or Power Splitting Relaying
newlineProtocol (PSR). In this thesis, SM is employed in all nodes of bidirectional relay
newlinenetwork. The energy consumption burden at the relay node is reduced by placing
newlinea power splitter which co-ordinates the EH and information processing at the
newlinerelay node. The end to end outage probability expression and throughput of the
newlineSM based bidirectional relay network is derived in terms of power splitting
newlinefactor at relay node.
newlineCognitive Radio (CR) technique is an effective approach to improve
newlinethe utilization of spectrum resources. CR users also called as secondary users can
newlineshare the licensed users (primary users) spectrum in either in overlay method or
newlineunderlay method.
