The construction and maintenance of road infrastructure are pivotal for societal growth; however, conventional road development has resulted in environmental degradation and economic challenges. The need for a paradigm shift towards sustainability in road construction has become imperative. This research endeavors to introduce a comprehensive Sustainable Project Planning Model (SPPM) tailored for Indian roads, integrating various methodologies and frameworks to align with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), mitigate environmental impacts, and optimize economic viability. newlineThe proposed Sustainable Project Planning Model (SPPM) aims to address the shortcomings of traditional road infrastructure planning by emphasizing sustainability. It harnesses the principles embedded in the SDGs to create a roadmap for sustainable road development, ensuring that the road system caters to current and future needs while minimizing financial burdens and environmental footprints. newlineThis thesis outlines the integration of diverse methodologies within the SPPM framework. The Project Definition Rating Index (PDRI) serves as a foundation for initial project assessment, enabling a systematic evaluation of project feasibility and requirements. Additionally, the Multi-Unit Selective Inventory Control-3-Dimensional (MUSIC-3D) Approach contributes a nuanced understanding of material usage, optimizing resources and reducing waste in road construction. newlineFurthermore, the research incorporates Project Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) to streamline project scheduling and enhance efficiency. The utilization of Three Point Cost Estimation coupled with Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) provides a comprehensive cost assessment, encompassing the entire lifespan of road projects and ensuring economic viability while considering sustainability aspects. newlineThe study aims to establish a robust methodology that amalgamates these diverse approaches into a unified framework for sustainable road development in India. By synthesizing these methodologies and leveraging their collective strengths, the proposed SPPM offers a holistic strategy for effective project planning, execution, and evaluation in the realm of Indian road infrastructure. newline newlineThe outcomes of this research are expected to significantly contribute to the field of sustainable infrastructure development, providing a practical roadmap and guidelines for policymakers, practitioners, and stakeholders involved in road construction. This thesis aims to pave the way for a more sustainable and resilient road infrastructure system aligned with the aspirations of a developing India. newline newline newline
