dc.description.abstractnewline Introduction: Oral Squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the most common tumors of the head and neck region. The prevalence of OSCC in India is over 30% -36% of all cancers in the country. Present surgical management protocol of OSCC includes wide surgical excision of primary lesion with safe margins and cervical lymph node dissection along with excision of Submandibular gland (SMG). newlineMaterial and methods: Prospective, observation study with 90 cases of oral squamous cell carcinoma with at least one submandibular gland removed. tumor site, nature of lesion, clinical palpable lymph nodes, Stage of tumor, histopathology of lymph nodes relations with involvement of submandibular gland in N+ (Stage III and stage IV) of oral squamous cell carcinoma cases. newlineResults: In 90 patients with 101 submandibular glands removed,3 patients show histopathological involvements of submandibular gland in N+ (Stage III and stage IV) OSCC cases in study. newlineConclusions: Our findings demonstrates that involvement of SMG in OSCC (Stageand#1030;and#1030;and#1030; and stage and#1030;V) is rare (3.3%). The gland should be excised based on Tumor site (Floor of mouth, tongue and large fungating mass). Stage of tumor and lymph node involvement. newlineKeywords: oral squamous cell carcinoma, neck dissection, submandibular gland, dry mouth level and#921; neck dissection. newline
