Abstract

Punjabi Cinema Music refers to Punjabi Cinema songs and Background Music used in it. The same has attained an independent identity. The role of Punjabi Cinema Music and its contribution has been highlighted by this study, depicting the culture, rituals and way of life in the Punjab region. This study is based on the analysis of the songs of Punjabi Cinema from 1960 to the present era, in which it is found that this genre is of utmost importance as it reflects many aspects of music such as catchy song tunes, sublime Orchestra, Classical Music, Semi-Classical Music, Folk Music, Gurmat Music, Sufiana Music and use of Western Music and relevant Background Score etc. Work of Music Directors, Singers and Lyricists who have established Punjab Film Music has been analysed by the researcher. This has been done by the detailed and comprehensive collection of data of songs of Punjabi Films along with nations and life sketches of stalwarts. The threadbore analysis in this unexplored field will serve as a handbook for future studies on the subject.
