Performance Improvement Of Flexible pavement using plastic Waste

Abstract

newlineThe rise in traffic volume along with heavy loading and with deficient repairs andscarcity of resources has resulted in the weakening of road linkage in India. To counter theproblem appropriate maintenance, enriched design, upgraded quality aggregates, andnew construction methods may be adopted. In the present scenario, due to vast development,population explosion, and urbanization, an enormous plastic waste generation fromdomestic refuse and Fly Ash from thermal power stationsare there. The plastic wastes mainlyconsist of carry bags of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and plastic bottles made ofpolyethylene terephthalate (PET). Disposal of these plastic wastes is a concern to society. The performance of flexible pavement can be enhanced by strengthening its soil subgrade and by enhancement in strength of its blacktop bituminous concrete surfacingwith the incorporation of plastic waste along with fly ash as additives. These plastic wastesareeffectivein theconstructionactivities ofthe flexiblepavement. newline newlineThe recycled PET fibres along with Fly Ash can be utilized in thesoil subgrade forits strength improvement and stabilization to give better results due to the reinforcing actionofthePETfibres.Thecurrentsituationneedstostabilizethesoilbyconsumingdifferent wastes, which are produced in bulk quantity, consisting of mainly Fly Ash andplastic.These wastesaredangeroustothe environmentandcreate problemsintheir disposal. Reusing these wastes in the construction developments will be the answer forits disposal, safely to a great extent. In the past, investigators have used a variety ofmaterialsand fibresto obtaindiverseresultsforthestabilizationofsoil. newline newlineSeveral pieces of literature show that considerable work on the assessment of the performance of the introduction of Fly Ash in the soil has been done. Several investigations using randomly oriented fibres have been done, but fewer works are stated about PET fibre along with fly ash.
