Abstract
The main objective of the study is to examine the impact of organisational cronyism (OC) on deviant workplace behaviour (DWB) with the mediating role of psychological contract breach (PCB) using social exchange theory and the norm of negative reciprocity as theoretical foundations. The study consisted of 475 employees working in the public and private banks of India. After thorough analysis of the literature, the current study utilized exploratory factor analysis to develop and validate new measure of all the three study variables. The correlation and regression analysis revealed that there is significant positive impact of OC on both PCB and DWB. The mediation effect of PCB was analysed using Macro Process. The outcomes revealed mediation of psychological contract breach between OC and DWB. The novelty of this research lies in its specific investigation of OC and the mediating role of PCB, rooted in a novel context which is a critical assessment on the suitability of Western findings for a theoretical framework in developing nations.
