Genetic Studies on Flowering and Related Traits in Sugarcane Saccharum spp

Abstract

The present investigation was taken up to study the flowering behaviour and newlineproductivity traits along with marker trait association in mapping population developed newlinefrom two diverse parents viz., Co 7204 and Co Pant 97222 which are differing for newlineflowering behaviour. The selected genotypes form above population were studied for newlinegenotype x environment interaction to assess the relative stability. Further a study was newlinedone to identify non-flowering clones combined with superior cane, sugar yield and newlinejuice quality parameters. newline As many as 181 clones were profuse flowering, while 47 were moderate and 9 newlinewere shy flowering types with only one clone viz., SNK13109 was non-flowering. Out newlineof the 100 SSR markers used for parental polymorphism survey, four primers namely newlineScFL0022, ScFL0036, ScFL0063 and ScFL0066 were found polymorphic. Single newlinemarker analysis showed significant association of ScFL0036 with flowering intensity at newline15th December and 1st January. Similarly the ScFL0066 showed significant association newlinewith flowering intensity at 15th November and 1st January. newline The high GCV, PCV and heritability coupled with high genetic advance were newlinerecorded for CCS yield followed by green top yield, NMC at 240 DAP, brix yield, newlineNMC at 300 DAP, flowering intensity at 15th November, germination count, cane yield newlineand cane formed shoots at 120 DAP. newline The character association and path analysis reviled that CCS yield, green top newlineyield, NMC at 300 DAP, cane formed shoots at 120 DAP, cane height, SCW, flowering newlineintensity at 15th December, flowering intensity at 1stJanuary and harvest index exhibited newlinehighly significant and positive association with cane yield and among themselves newlinebesides high positive directs and indirect effect on cane yield. newline The stability analysis for flowering behaviour and cane yield revealed that the newlinegenotypes viz. ,SNK 13142 was stable across environments. newline The genotypes viz., SNK 13142, SNK 13096 and SNK 13101 showed superior newlineperformance for various cane yield and quality traits coupled with sh
