Effect of Ozone and nutrient amendment on selected crop plants

Abstract

Ground level ozone has emerged to be a hazardous air pollutant in the last few newlinedecades. The ozone monitoring data clearly indicate that the background ozone newlineconcentrations have more than doubled in the last century; with more significant newlineincrease in the Northern hemisphere. The present scenario of global climate change is newlinefurther expected to intensify the magnitude of the problem, as it will provide more newlinefavorable meteorological conditions for ozone formation. In addition, the present newlinetrends of rapid urbanization, coupled with the improper implementation of the not so newlinestrict legislations are predicted to cause an unpredictably high emission of ozone newlineprecursors in the atmosphere. This multifarious set up of ozone formation makes it newlinedifficult to check the ozone concentration in the troposphere. Therefore, we need to newlinedevelop some strategy to minimize the harmful effects of ozone on plant performance. newline
