Abstract
The aim of the present work is to find the best solution to the
newlineselection of reinforcement materials substituted for the improvement of
newlinethe composite material. The naturally available fibres like palm fibre,
newlinehemp fibre and kenaf fibre were selected for the reinforcement in the
newlineepoxy polymer composite. Surface treatment was carried out for the
newlineimproved interaction between the polymer matrix and the fibre. It may
newlinehighly improve the quality of surface of the fibre and improve the
newlineadhesion quality between the fibre and the matrix.
newlineThe observation in the test results showed difference in the
newlineresult of the reinforced fibre at various volume percentages which was
newlineprocessed with 4% sodium hydroxide and various volume percentage of
newlineunprocessed fibre. The fabrication of composite laminate was done at
newlinevarious volumes such as 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% of natural fibre
newlinereinforcement.
newlineThe best results of all the percentage were selected and
newlineoptimum fibre reinforcement was selected from the results. Mechanical
newlinecharacterisation of the composite was done after the specimen was
newlinefabricated. As per the ASTM standards, the tensile properties, flexural
newlineproperties, impact strength and hardness of the composite was found.
newlineFrom the mechanical characterisations of the composite,
newlineoptimum volume percentage was recorded. Further improvement was
newlinevi
newlinedone by adding of Egg Shell Particles (ESP) 800nm. At various
newlinepercentages the mechanical characterisations was studied for the
newlinecomposite that has ESP inclusions in it. The filler has improved the
newlinematerial s thermal stability and the properties of wear for the composite,
newlineeven though it has declined the tensile properties when there is addition
newlineof ESP in the composite.
newlineNew material was fabricated with optimum volume percentage
newlineobtained from the observation of the mechanical characterisation
newlineprocedure. Based on the inferences of the mechanical characterisation
newlineand the predictions by regression algorithm which proved the
newlineobservations true; the hybrid material was fabricated and tested for its
newlineproperties. D
