Role of Ocean Atmosphere coupled processes over Indian Ocean basin on onset and active phases of Indian Summer Monsoon

Abstract

newlineInteraction between the ocean and atmosphere drives and modulates the weather and newlineclimate through dynamic and thermodynamic feedback. The air-sea interface works newlineas the main exchange centre for the momentum, heat and water vapour fluxes which newlineinfluence the weather and climate. The primary regulator of the Indian Summer Monsoon newline(ISM) s internal variability and dynamics are linked to the ocean-atmosphere coupled newlineprocesses. The thesis has four main objectives, two of which are concerned with the newlineMonsoon Onset over Kerala (MOK), one of which is the evaluation of the impact of newlinemonsoon intra-seasonal oscillations and southern Indian Ocean (IO) dynamics on the newline2018 Kerala extreme rainfall event, and the final objective is to comprehend how the newlineISMs onset and active phases change in a warming environment. newline
