dc.description.abstractnewline The current requirements of industries demand material to be developed which are capable to withstand the high thermal and impact load. In course of this development, suitable material model is made consisting of Al-2024 as matrix and Alumina as reinforcement in various proportions. This selection of MMC s enabled to study various thermal and mechanical properties of the component developed. This work gives an overview about solid and liquid state material fabrication methods. The material model developed is tested for its applicability as heat sinks for avionics industries. Desirable properties of pure metals are studied and the new material is developed with 3%, 6%, 9% and 12%. newlineModes of heat transfer in metals at steady and transient state conditions help in understanding the properties of conduction, convention and radiations of the material model developed. This consists of identifying the properties of material component for various compositions of reinforcements. This enabled to select the best composition of reinforcement. Characteristics, chemical composition and physical properties of Al-2024 matrix are detailed as they find themselves suitable for heat sink applications. newlineThe MMC s developed exhibits lower density values for increase in reinforcement percentages as compared to pure aluminum. This value attained is most required to the development of heat sink as the developed heat sink exhibits lighter weight. The necessary material and design considerations are made in selecting the type of heat sinks and to measure heat sink performances which could enhance the material usage. The experimental methods consists of the selecting the thermocouple and heater to check the feasibility of governing equations. The temperature distribution in the heat sinks provides a greater observation to optimize the structure and fin size in heat sinks.
