Abstract
Cricket is a game of grace and beauty which is based on technical skill, which require years of practice for being mastered in particular skill, which requires more and more concentration and patience with higher degree of fitness. Nowadays the game of cricket is tremendously changing with introducing of new cricket format like t- 20 because of this the role of specialty (playing position) becomes a measure issue for a player.
newlineIt has been observed most of the time that children s who play cricket or want to join cricket as a career are more passionate to become a batsman rather than a bowler though they have a potential to be a good bowler. Hence on the basis of their morphological as well as physiological characteristics they can be classifying in to different categories according to their playing specialty. So, for the talent identification purpose it is important to identify the predicting factors at the early age for the cricketers so they can classify according to their speciality i.e. batsmen, pace bowlers and spinners. For this a discriminant model was developed by the researcher and the prime objective of the study was to discriminant the selected physiological and anthropometric variables for classifying cricketers in to one of the three categories i.e. (batsmen, pace bowlers and spinners) and for the following research issues which are quoted below.
newlineWhether on the basis of selected variables the subjects could be classified in to one of the three groups?
newlineWhich variables have most discriminating power among all the variables which were selected in the study?
newlineFor the purpose of present study, total 90 senior s women cricket players were selected from the six state boards i.e. Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana by using convenient purposive Sampling technique. The subjects were having match experience of at least three years professionally at elite level. Further the subjects were divided in to three groups (Batsmen N = 30, Spinners N = 30 and Pace - Bowlers)
