dc.description.abstractIt s network everywhere. Communication is way of life and that s where networks are bones and blood. It s not very far when we will see every single device as a live entity in huge communication fabric. Anywhere, everywhere connectivity will be default requirements. But this may not be as simple as it may appear to us in present. The reach of networks to every device level will unleash a new generation of network issues, like scale, size, geography, terrains, medium, addressing, internetworking, etc. to name a few. newlineHistorically, networks were visualized as Local Area Networks (LANs), Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs). When it comes to communications between far away located devices, WANs play oxygen role. WANs are in existence by virtue of their scale and structure. When WANs are in talks, we can t make without topologies, link characteristics (Serial Links), connecting Devices (Edge Router, Core Router or Gateways), Protocols (PPP, IGP, EGP, ISDN and MPLS) and connecters (RS232, RS449). newlineAmong many available protocols, MPLS is emerging technology for WAN level communications. Packet Delay to last network, security provisioning, Size of Routing Table are few challenges which are potential research issues in WANs. newlineIn this work, we have addressed the issues like Packet Delay to last network, security provisioning, Size of Routing Table through MPLS. MPLS lies between Layer 2 and Layer 3, i.e., Layer 2.5. MPLS uses labels instead of IP level addressing within its network. We have performed several parametric analyses for performance evaluation of MPLS. Evaluation considered Hardware Platform heterogeneity using products from different vendors, Layer-2 (L2) and Layer-3 (L3) VPN performance assessment, MPLS performance in IPv4 and IPv6 networks and Security aspects of MPLS and finally; MPLS vs. Non-MPLS performance comparison in scalable networks. newline newlineWe have proposed two solutions on the basis of performance evaluations.
